On March 17, 2017, a man was killed in a serious traffic collision not far from our office in Laurel, Maryland last week.
Police say that 31-year-old Louisville, Kentucky resident Abdifitah A Sheikh Ali had stopped on the side of Interstate 95 near MD Route 216 on Friday, after his tractor trailer suffered from mechanical problems. At the same time 64-year-old Anthony Maisto was driving in the direction of Ali, and slammed into the back of the tractor trailer at a high rate of speed.
After the horrific crash, rescue workers rushed Maisto to R. Adams Cowley Shock Trauma Center by helicopter with severe injuries. He was pronounced dead later that night.
Police say that Ali, and a passenger who had been riding with him in his truck at the time of the crash, were not injured.
As we stated in our earlier blog about truck crashes, collisions with large trucks, especially tractor trailers, are among the most dangerous of all traffic incidents. We encourage all divers to share the road, pay attention, and drive safely.
